Summer changes how we work

From June to September, daytime temperatures across the UAE regularly climb well above 40°C and humidity along the coast can be high. For many professionals, the season brings more time indoors, longer days in air-conditioned spaces and, for some, a quieter business calendar while colleagues travel. With a little intention, summer can become one of the most productive periods of the year.

Plan the day around the heat

  • Travel early: arriving before the late-morning heat builds makes the commute easier and gives you a calm first hour.
  • Avoid midday movement: schedule client visits and site walks for the morning or evening where possible.
  • Use the nearest centre: with a network access plan, work from the location closest to home on the hottest days.

Outdoor workers in the UAE are protected by the annual midday work ban during summer months. Office teams are not covered by the same rule, but the underlying idea of avoiding heat at its peak is sensible for everyone.

Protect your focus

Work in blocks

Divide the day into focused blocks of 60 to 90 minutes followed by a short break. Book a focus pod or quiet zone for work that needs full concentration, and use open coworking areas for lighter tasks.

Use quieter weeks well

When clients and colleagues are travelling, fewer meetings create space for projects that are usually postponed: updating processes, cleaning up data, writing proposals and planning for the busy season that begins after summer.

Set clear availability

If your team is spread across different countries during the holidays, agree on response times and keep shared calendars accurate so that nobody waits unnecessarily.

Look after your wellbeing indoors

  • Hydrate throughout the day: air-conditioned environments are dry, and thirst is easy to miss.
  • Move regularly: stand, stretch or take a short indoor walk every hour.
  • Seek natural light: choose desks near windows to support energy and mood, while keeping screens free of glare.
  • Dress for the temperature inside: a light layer helps in strongly cooled meeting rooms.
  • Keep lunch light: heavy meals during a long indoor day can make the afternoon slump worse.
Summer productivity is less about working longer hours and more about working at the right time, in the right place.

Make the workspace work for you

A well-managed centre removes many small frustrations of the season: reliable cooling, back-up power, filtered drinking water and comfortable lounges for a proper break away from your desk. If you usually work from home, consider booking a few coworking days each week in summer to separate work from home life and to stay connected with other professionals.

Prepare for September

Use the final weeks of August to review goals, confirm meeting-room bookings for September events and onboard new team members. Teams that plan ahead return from the summer ready for one of the busiest quarters of the business year.
